With COVID-19 still hanging around, we are once again excited to start our 2021 free summer enrichment program! This program is meant for elementary school kids! Among the academic pathways, we want to help our mentees further enhance their math, science, writing, reading and public speaking skills through our fun-filled workshops. On the lighter and more artsy side, we engage kids through arts and crafts, theater, drama and mind boggling games! These activities will be held online on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 9am-12pm via Zoom. We encourage our mentees to take some fresh air and join us on Saturdays between 9-11:30am with some hiking, biking and socially distanced field trips. Join our 9 week program starting June 14th - August 13th which is free of charge and make your kids summer more memorable and enriching!

One of the activities we have done through our young mentors program is an out of school book club! We started beginning of February 2021 with one of the most popular novels for elementary school students, "Charlotte's Web". We are currently reading another well-known novel, "Matilda". We hold these meetings weekly. During these book clubs we all read 2-4 chapters together and then teach and help our mentees comprehend. We then invite them to talk amongst themselves in breakout rooms, or groups on our zoom platform. During the one week period of time after a book club meeting we assign our mentees 2-3 chapters of reading. We also ask that they be able answer questions relevant to the assigned chapters when we meet for the club the following week.
Recently, we have partnered with the CUSD school district to launch a tutoring club to help students with their assignments, and for them to have mentors which they can turn to, for support as needed. We started this club at the beginning of January 2021 with one class and have been expanding since, adding more mentors to work with us as well. The tutoring club is hosted one day a week for 90 minutes where we run multiple classes simultaneously to support students with their education. During these tutoring clubs, we assist students with their classwork and homework assignments across various subjects. We also provide additional help to further enrich their understanding in certain subject areas. For example, a student struggling with the four operations in math, would work with us to refine their understanding of these skills to apply in their assignments. This club also gives these students an opportunity to collaborate with their classmates outside of class to work on their given assignments.
We started our mentoring activities in the Summer of 2020. Our first initiative was to help working parents by engaging the kids for few hours during the working weeks. We launched this program at the beginning of Summer, and mentored young kids of ages 5-11 years old as our mentees. Throughout the course of our program, we performed various activities with the kids to keep them engaged. We had weekly theme days, where the kids would dress up or perform activities representing the theme of the day. We had fun days like family Friday and etc. We also gave them 5 minutes of new fun facts each day, about space, politics and more! We also had our mentees do research projects on presidents, countries, and geography. By the end of the summer we had increased from 4 kids to 17!
