Unusual time brings unique challenges. Year 2020 has been a very unusual year for 7+ billion people on the mother earth due to COVID-19 pandemic. All schools were closed and classes were held virtually. Offices, companies were shutdown and employees were asked to work from home. Restaurants, parks, library and all public places were closed down to prevent the spread of the virus. This situation has created a difficult circumstance at homes. We have seen our working parents juggling between home, work and us kids during the last few months. As elder siblings, we have tried to help and learnt a lot in the process. This experience has encouraged us to create a program and extend the same support to our community and less fortunate. Towards this effort, we have done a fund raising to support Sunnyvale Community Center, which provides support to the low income group in our community. The second initiative we have taken is to provide mentoring support to the younger kids. Due to ongoing pandemic, the summer programs have come to a halt. The daycare system has closed down their doors and there is not much to do for young kids at home. This situation prompted us to start a virtual mentoring program for young kids. The aim of this program is to provide virtual enrichment sessions covering math, science, news and some creative activities. The activities are designed to make it fun for the age group
This is a complimentary program and a way for us to support our community. We have taken a step to mentor younger kids during the COVID pandemic, however our bigger goal remains to continue this mentoring activities beyond COVID. We would, through our mentoring activities, like to positively impact in our mentees' life so that when they grow up they become successful mentors.

Among many activities, I am passionate about photography and digital editing of photos, I love music in general and specifically passionate about playing viola. I was part of Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra (GPYO) and Chamber Orchestra at Montgomery, NJ and at Lawson. I love playing tennis and I am a voracious reader of fiction novels. I love outdoor activities including hiking, biking and capturing beautiful sights of sunrise and sunsets. I enjoy spending time with my younger sister who is in elementary school. I love playing and mentoring young kids. I have been hosting birthday parties for my sister and her friends. I have been active volunteer in raising funds and food for foodbanks and soup kitchen in NJ. During COVID 19, together with Kashish, we have raised funds for Sunnyvale community center. We started this mentoring activities with a purpose to help the working parents during the pandemic and same time create a platform to bring kids together in this virtual world.

Hi! I am Kashish Naggar, Co-Founder of Young Mentors Initiatives. In the past, I attended Collins Elementary and Lawson Middle, and am now a sophomore at Monta Vista High School. I was born in India and moved to America as a toddler. From a young age, I have been invested in playing sports. I have been swimming on the competitive swim team, PEAK, since I was 8 years old and performed at various competitions, progressing to achieve the pacific 'A' time. I have also been on playing on my respective school basketball teams since 4th grade, and have been the captain of some of those. I demonstrate my passion for music through playing the piano, and playing the violin on my school's chamber orchestra. In my free time, I love spending time outdoors, whether it's hiking, watching sunsets/sunrises, or biking! In the past, I have played the leadership role throughout organizing various fundraisers ranging from supporting kids in need in hospitals during the holiday season to simply raising funds for the Sunnyvale Community Center! I absolutely love spending time with kids, and have a lot of experience in doing so. I worked as a teacher's assistant at the after school(LMS) where I spent time working with kids both academically, as well as socially! In the summer of 2020, Saumya and I started a mentoring program for little kids like our siblings to help parents engage their little ones during this pandemic and to support our communities in the best way possible. We had a total of 16 Kids enrolled for 2 hour sessions, 3 times every week. This initiative not only enhanced my skills in areas of planing, mentorship, leadership, creativity, compassion and execution, but also gave me the opportunity give back to my community by bringing these kids together!
